Main Body

Rare Earth Elements are those which are in minute proportion in Earth's crust, and are difficult to extract.

Currently, China has near monopoly in their extraction in the world.

Uneven distribution implications:

1Economics → Modern growth cannot happen without Rare Earths. Thus it can hamper development of nations
2Geostrategic → Monopoly + Cartelization may lead to use of Rare Earth as tool of geosecurity cooperation.
3Technology → Countries with RE may sprint ahead in technological development
4Energy & climate → One RE: are critical for renewable energy need; concern over target achievement
5Political → Uneven distribution may ensure political fends among nations for trade and gains.

At the world move towards critical & emerging technologies, the Rare Earth Elements' distribution will affect in development.
