Domestic politics

1Non-violent struggles like Non Cooperation & Civil Disobedience raised the stature of Indian National Congress (INC).
2INC won both Central & provincial elections — making it voice of masses by — 1937 elections
3Gandhi-Irwin Pact, and Round Table Conferences made INC an equal party in negation to British.

All these factors put pressure on the British to lead.

General circumstances

(A) World War required Indian support — Concession to get support by — August offer, 1940

(B) WW II led to emergence of USPA & USA as super-powers — created precedence for decolonization

(C) Lack of economic resources & British bureaucracy commitment post-war

(D) British needed peaceful exit to maintain good diplomatic relations & Commonwealth membership with India.

However, Quit India movement also staged a role
