Indian classical music got divided into Hinduistani and Carnatic music during 13th century. Classical music is the one that has achieved highest level of refinement.

HINDUSTANI: Geographic spread - Northern part of India. Origin - In 12th century after influence from foreign (New) Record. Foreign Influence - Turkish, Arabic, Iranian subtypes - Marg, Gharanas due to flexibility (Lucknow, Awalim). Raga - complexity. There are around 6 Raga, less complex. Specificity - seen A time, specifically by instrument. Music - based vocal are primary. CARNATIC: Southern India. Older than Hindustani. Believed to be of divine origin (Natya Shastra). Indigenous. No subtypes. Highly accessible (infeasible). Highly complex, 72 Ragas. No such specificity. Vocal are premier.

Prominent performers include the Pandu, Ravishankar, Zaki Hussain. AMIR KHOSRAO was a suffragette & disciple of Nizamuddin Auliya. He has contributed immensely to music in India. (CONTRIBUTION) Invented many Ragas (as much as 19 Ragas) include Raga Taans, created with Peer Qawali invention of and enjoinment of Qaida, introduction of khayal music. Instrumentals of sittar & Tabla invented. New musicology 'Indraprastha Mata' wrote many books on Music as mentioned in his poem (Ghutat-ul-kamae). Amir khasao's contribution was huge due to which he is called 'Parrot of India'
