Revolt of 1857 - far more than a mutiny:

1. Though the revolt started by a mutiny in 59th Infantry at Meerut it later gained massive support from various rulers and regions.

(A) Delhi - General Bhakt Khan. Lucknow, Rani Laxmi Bai, Tantiatope (Shansi) etc.

2. Aspiration to achieve independence from British rule and free India from the clutches of foreign rulers.
