Question Q.4GS1GS1
Discuss the various factors responsible for the uneven temperature distribution on Earth's surface. (Answer in 150 words) 10 Marks
Main Body
Earth receives heat from the sun. Due to variation in the same, there are variations in temperature distribution on Earth's surface.
Uneven temperature (distribution) - seasons
1Uneven insolation - given the slanting ways of sun, the tropical regions get more heat as direct sun rays fall on earth.
2Tilt of Earth's axis - responsible for uneven insolation - North Hemisphere more heat during Feb, Mar, April, May, June.
3Ocean currents - warm ocean currents create warm temp & Gulf Stream America. Cold ocean currents cool temp eg Labrador currents.
5Influence of local winds can cause change in temperature - eg Chinook can cause rise in temperature.
6Uneven distribution of land & water - North Hemisphere has greater temperature variations often Southern Hemisphere is not as land is more in North.
7Presence of cloud over regions can cause change in insolation leading to differing in temperature.
Therefore circulation factors of sea heat & temperature budget cause variation in temperature distribution around the world.
