Give an account of the deposits of different types of minerals found in the ocean relief across the world.

About 2/3d of earth's crust is, covered by oceans and about 90% of it still lies unexplored.

Types of minerals found in ocean:

INDIAN OCEAN RELIEF AND MINERALS

CONTINENTAL SHELF & SLOPE

There are the richest source of offshore petroleum deposits eg Bombay High.

2. Several desalination plants also operate here giving out various cults like NaCl, cults, etc

CONTINENTAL RISE

1. These regions are the deposits of the dying organisms and the material coming down slope of the continental slope.

2. These regions consist of minerals like (indigenous deposit), Calcium carbonate), (magnesium deposits) and even salts formed from the hydrothermal vents.

ABYSSAL PLAINS

1. These are the deepest part of ocean and have a deposit of minerals like -

Poly METALLIC MINERALS (PMN) -

ii) Red core and Red clay formed due to disintegration of organic basalt.

Ocean relief is the closest source of several minerals and India has been granted the license to explore PAN from Indian ocean. Initiatives like Deep Ocean Mission will prove useful in developing such technologies
