Muslim league was founded in 1906 in Dhaka with a veiled aim of countering the Indian National Congress's nationalist sentiments.

INC had been trying to cooperate with communal ideology of the league but by accommodating its demand ultimately the separate nation ideology was born.

PHASE of COOPERATION: 1906 - 1930

The Muslim league or its prominent leaders like Ali Brothers and Jinnah cooperated with INC's leaders like Gandhi and Tilak for common objectives such as :

i) Khilafat Issue (1919)

ii) Talikiwala Bagh tragedy (1919)

Through the developments of August Offer (1940), Cripps Mission (1942) and Cabinet Mission (1946), INC showed that its existence was incompatible with that of secular INC.

PHASE OF DIVERGENT IDEOLOGY (1936-46)

The idea of a separate nation-state of Pakistan was unearthed by Allama Iqbal during the Lahore session of league.

Conform started to gain central convictions to league in such phase like -

i) According to the demand of Muslim league's DELHI PROPOSAL (1927)

ii) Meeting Jinnah at regular intervals by Congress leaders

PHASE OF INCOMPATIBILITY 1946-1947

During this phase the idea of 2 nations theory had gathered momentum. The Muslim league wanted a role and to be seen as a sole representative of Muslims in India over which the taller broke down in Wavell Plan of Chitmula confirm (1945)
