The peninsular India is the oldest geological past of Indian sub-continent and hence is tectonically stable, but it is not devoid of earthquakes.
Earthquakes in peninsular India:
1. Reactivation of old faultlines - the Bhuj earthquake was the example of reactivation of fault line that runs along the Narmada Valley
2. Reactivation induced seismicity - the prime earthquake of Morbi there was due to the RIC neam.
3. Volcanic activity - the expulsion of Karakasha volcano in 19th century sent tremors across the south Indian region
4. Anthropogenic activities during & explosion causes & tremors as well.
The Bureau of Indian Geodesy demarcated the Earthquakes sensitivity map dividing India into zone II to zone IV highlighting that is zone of India earthquakes fate.
