Origin of Islands: Shift of from India centred place moving towards separation of the island. Formed from Basaltic flows, similar to what created the Deccan Trap. Volcanic origin of the islands - mantle plumes pushed out onto the surface, creating layers of basalt.
Most of the islands today are have similar features to Deccan region ie: high mineral levels and demagation by natural processes. Three islands in Indian Ocean: Bay of Bengal have volcanic origin and are formed mainly by primary igneous rocks.
