Question Q.14GS1GS1

Enumerate the reasons behind rising intensity and frequency of cyclones in the Arabian Sea in recent years. Giving special reference to NDMA guidelines, recommend measures to check cyclone frequency impacts of cyclones.

Main Body

Cyclones are formed due to confluence of various parametric. Cyclones are destructive functions that result in high land speed, rainfall and thunderstorms along the route they traverse.

Cyclones originate in the oceans due to warm temperature, low pressure region influence of air masses etc.

In recent year it has been observed that the cyclones are becoming more frequent and more destructive in Arabian sea - coppored to colder lands where most big cyclones offend on the eastern coast being Bay of Bengal e.g. Sone Teni, in Arabian sea.

Reasons for rising intensity and frequency:

oil over the world resulting in more frequent broken of low pressure regions over Arabian sea due to insolation of sun.

2Direction of planching winds - Monsoon winds are becoming stronger due to increased pressure gradient and this results in intense in the instance of Monsoon side winds, that flows in North-Easterly direction and bring bye Tropical cyclones with them.
3Increased speed of winds due to high pressure gradient due to move coastal warming in the Arabian sea coast.
4Weakening of Eastern jet steam and strengthening of domelli jets brings by cyclones to the west coast.

All these reasons combined have resulted in increased trawing and intense of the cyclones on Arabian sea roost.

Need to check advance impact of cyclones as per NDMA:

1Local planning - Local administration is churged to develop a evacuation or mitigation plan in the event of cyclones as per the connection of NDMA and suitable to local needs.
2Early warning System to be made robust with the use of low ITT & community to aware people of the cyclones to facilitate autonomous evacuation.
3Coordination amongst different prevention and response agencies at both local and national level to optimise the response to cyclone.
4Use of GIS, satellite imaging to track the path and intensity of cyclones.
5Cooperation body of local people and administration for rescue and rehabilitation after cyclone.
6Disastres resilient infrastructure to be promoted in cyclone prone areas.
