Glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) is a phenomena in which glacial dammed by terminal moraines is breached by lake water causing massive flash flood. As glaciers retract due to natural causes and global warming, pressure in moraines moraines and they break causing GLOF. Mitigation strategies: (I) NDMA guidelines: (1) Monitoring of glacial lakes via satellite
(V) Early warning in case of GLOF (2) Collecting real time data on Glacial lakes. Other measures: (1) Reducing green house gas emissions and brown carbon emissions which are causing rapid global retreat (2) Stabilizing moraines artificially (3) Piercing glacial lake water in case of rapid expansion of glacial lake by Artificial bunds in Ladakh. Using vedas and real time satellite monitoring is key to face GLOF emergency
