Main Body

Regionalism is rooted in India's lingual and cultural diversity and when one of the factors that led to relative deprivation gate concentrated in a geography, regionalism takes both.

Relationship of regional disparity & sentiment of regionalism:

1. Inter-state regionalism: it is evident in state work and fight over resources like dond (eg. Ralganj vs water dispute). It has its history in linguistic creation of states

2. Intra-state regionalism: it emerges when one part of state is more developed than other.

For eg: Vidarbha region faces high economic stress. Similarly there is demand for Chhattisgarh, Goshalland. Recent kuki-Meiti infighting over asses to hill areas exemplify the same

3. Supra-state regionalism: Example concerns of southern states one neglect by Union Government in division of tax resources as concern of North-East population over discrimination

4. Son of soil doctrine: it's emergent from linguistic & cultural chauvinism & fight for limited resources (eg: Marathi demand)

5. Secessionist tendencies: in extreme cases, it is demand for own sovereign state (eg: Khalistan demand)
