Marriage & family are the basic unity of society & play an important role on one individual as well as the decision she takes.

However, in the era of unprecedented change brought at globalisation & technology these institution have undergone metamorphosis. Changes in Marriage: (1) Seen as companionship from sacrament (2) Dilution in sacredness of marriage (3) Seen as a social than a religious institution (4) Rising desertion & divorces (5) Empowerment of women led to delay in marriage & family planning. Changes in Family: (1) Breakdown of joint family system (2) Nuclearisation of family (3) Fragmentation of land (4) Family way a unit of production, now it has been converted to unit at consumption. (5) Deceased role of grand parents in children's life (6) Increased isolation between family members (7) Role of State & Market: (9) Urbanisation increases cost of living, people have small families (2) Migration- people migrate with only close family members

3Land Reform:- ceiling on land has led fragmentation (6) Women empowerment such as Domestic Violence Act, led to greater count of women in decision making (5) Influence of free market:- women exposed to economic independence & financial integration of women in economy. (8) Role of Democratic Right Based state :- privacy on Rights of individuals leads to increased divorces, etc. Thus, there institution will always keep changing, but we need to preserve their underlying cultural roots which keeps us based on the ground. Not everything new must be accepted, but everything old must be thrown away
