Rain Shadow Effect
On case of orographic lift, mountain topography leads to forced upward displaced a moisture lader wind
2As moisture lader wind rise, cool down due to adiabatic lapse on the windward side
3This releases the moisture causing massive orographic rainfall on windward side
4However, by the time these winds reach opposite side of mountain (leeward side), they become dry
5Hence, no rainfall occurs on leeward side and is form the rain shadow area and is effect is called rain-shadow effect
7Eg. On western side of Western Ghats, heavy rainfall occurs on Konkan coast. But due to rain-shadow effect, Dharwar and Mahabaleshwar remain dry.
