Advantages of linguistic reorganisation

1It fulfilled popular demand for such a reorganisation. Ex - Andhra movement by Potti Sriramulu.
2It allowed for greater regional affinity and increased the feeling of national unity.
3It provided an avenue for preserving India's rich diversity.

Ex - demand for a separate state of Punjab, Telangana, Jharkhand.

Disadvantages of linguistic reorganisation

1It has led to parochialism in certain instances. Ex - khalistan extremism.
2It has further fragmented the Indian polity and geography.
