Introduction
Deserts are marked by negative soil moisture balance, extreme diurnal and annual temperature changes and strong anti-cyclonic conditions, leading to conditional stability.

Distribution of deserts:
(A) Sub-tropical belt:
1. Found between 25°-30°N/S of the equator
3. Presence of sub-tropical westerly jet stream => upper air pilations which leads to the sinking of high pressure air => creation of high pressure air raises calm clouds
4. Sinking air raises calm clouds => greater insolation and leads precipitation => desert like conditions.
5. Formation of the Kough of jet cream => anticyclonic conditions.
[Eg.] Thar desert (Rajasthan), Arabian desert (Saudi Arabia), Sahara desert (Africa) etc.
(B) Mid-latitude deserts => 60-65°N/S
