Post Mauryan Age promoted the development of varied schools of art. There were Gandhara, Mathura and Amravati schools.

Differences between Gandhara and Mathura schools: Gandharaopen-greyred muttles used. Sandstone are used.influenced by Greek art.physiognomy of Buddha in Gandhara in semi-meditative state.Presence of Greek symbols like hair style.Roman features like Seymian caps, Romaandy etc.Halo behind Buddha are nearly plain with mined decoration.Buddha is shown to be divine.
