The Oslo Accords were signed between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization with Norway as the mediator for a just foundation for a lasting peace. Using it was hailed as a breakthrough. Diplomatic solutions attempted: US opposed in 1948, 1967, 1973 wars between Israel and Arabs. Showed possibility of mutual recognition and compromise - PLO recognized Israel, Israel devolved power to local Palestinian government. Was assumed to lead to democracy, peace - more past First Intifada, occupation atrocities.

No genuine autonomy to Palestinian authorities - flaw of governance - Fatah party accused of corruption. Illegal occupation continued in the West Bank - more Jewish settlements encouraged. Alwaldin led to radicalization creating of Hamas and Hezbollah affiliates initiated of PLO network. Oslo and Camp David Accords isolated the Palestinian people - Arabs used [illegible] passive. It could not lead to Two state solution, Israel claimed security on Palestinian right to return.
