Introduction

Women's Movements in India showed gradual transition from women as 'beneficiaries' to women-led, women-oriented development, exemplified by recent Women's day celebration on 'Women Power'

Led by progressive women visionaries and movements. Traditional methods in Indian movements included forms of scripture quotes and reinscription on women, such as Syed Ahmad's work for women's education in the Aligarh Movement. However, contemporary movement shows diverse approaches: (1) Rise of eco-feminism undertakings such as Chipko and Appiko movements.

Contemporary women's movements show diverse approaches: (2) Organisation of women for economic empowerment, e.g., SEWA by Ela Bhatt has 8 million women members; (3) Strong protests such as Burning Brides and Anti-Dowry protests; (4) Creation of digital protests and mobilization such as Pink Chaddi movement and MeToo movement; (5) Using grassroot worker collaboration such as ASHA Workers in ending repeated pregnancy; (6) Solving issues of society such as Meira Paibi in Manipur; (7) Role in ending poverty such as Kutumbashree in Kerala.
