i- Improve the Plant Load Factor of powerplants eg low efficiency of thermal plants

ii- & Optimum mix of fossil fuels & renewable energy eg Thermal - Solar Plants

iii- Address varying demand eg Thermal in summer & Hydro powerplants can store energy for winters heating

Challenges:

i- Poor health of powerplants in India eg low results of UDAM Scheme

ii- Power backdown instructions lead to losses

iii- Lack of a well developed carbon market
