Introduction

Ecological carrying capacity of any ecological system (maintaining hills) can be defined as the bearing capacity ie what no. of people Pt can bear without harming the ecological process. Tourism threatens the carrying capacity by increasing the footfall in that area.

Factors Contributing to the Trend of Tourism in Hill States:

1Closes to Nature provide peace & mind (scientific study by IIT Madras)
2States also attract tourist on it adds their revenue immensely.
3New social media trends also creating hype about tourism thus attracting many people.

Potential Environmental Impact:

1Environmental pollution - Flowing plastic bags in rivers, jungles etc.
2Human-Animal conflicts - Jungle safaris, Encroachment to habitats of wildlife for easing puffing from tourism. (eg: 2 Resorts in jungle)
3Construction activities harming existing environment - Hotels & Resorts for stay
4Disturbing lifes of wildlife animals & Indigenous people - (eg: A tourist captured video of a Jarawa women dancing was circulated)

However if done positively it can have positive impact also (eg: Involving local people to conserve forests, hills and local environments)

Measures:

1Eco-tourism should be promoted (eg: Home stay)
3Participation of local indigenous people in conservation activities
6Restrictions on no. of tourists at onetime (eg: Bhutan has restricted the no.)
4No concretization of Hotel construction (Camps should be promoted, Home stay should be offered)
5As beaches are given 'blue flag', mountain & hill ecosystem & also should be given recognition & cleanliness.
