The social reform and actions are said to be both as a result of British policy as well as a response to British policy. Social change as a response to colonial Rule: (1) Imposition to unite people/masses so that an oppose effectually. (2) Henry Vivian Derozio started promoting western education among youth. 4In response of the colonial policies formed, were taken by Gandhiji. -> Participation of women in movement -> Eradication of untouchability. (5) Changes like coming forth as a neglect group and demanding constitutional reforms. -> INA in 1885. However colonial forces also helped in reform. eg: - William Bentick passing law of Sati Abolition (1829) - Dalhousite passing Widow Remarriage Act 1856. Thus the role of social reformers like RayaRam Mohanray, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagan etc are immense.
