Introduction
Deserts are the area which receives the rainfall (< 25cm/annum) and they are of two types-(A) Hot deserts and (B) Cold deserts.

Reasons for the distribution of Desert across the earth: (1) Most of the deserts are located on the western side of the Continent, due to the offshore effect of winds. (2) Their desert - Offshore of the trade winds & they are parallel to the South-West Monsoon wind.
2Some deserts are located near the cold ocean currents, due to which, these is little precipitation and produces a desiccating effect. (3) Some deserts are located where the winds sink at high pressure belts. (e.g.) Saudi Arabia and Ping.
4Deserts are found in Arctic and Antarctic region, due to sinking heavy cold wind. (5) Deserts are found in leh, ladakh and hobi due to less precipitation due to both rain-shadow effect. However, the desertification is not knowing climate boundaries and it is increasing rapidly due to climate change. Therefore, we need to adopt the UNCCD principles to adopt land degradation neutrality by 2030.
