Significance of Mission: (1) Regional Disparity: States like Telangana have ~100%. Tap connections vis Bihar, Jharkhand are at ~50%. (2) Improving nutritional standards: Avoiding diseases like Cholera, diarrhea in children. (3) Saving of woman's time: in fetching waterpossibility of increasing female LFPR. (4) Reducing health expenses, improving productivity of workforce, etc. (5) Proper sewage disposal.

Impediments in Mission: (1) Slow progress: Only 54% of target achieved till now. (2) Global shocks: Like Russia-Ukraine, Pandemic, etc caused construction due to low steel availability. (3) Quality of water: Polluted water taps was reported in west Bengal. (4) Quantity of water: Far less than envisioned 55 litres per person per day. (5) Paani Samitis: Not effective enough due to low capacity building.
