Factors Behind Variability: Creation of the Tibetan low pressure belt which attracts monsoonal winds, e.g. Lake formation leads to lake monsoons. Climatic phenomena like El Nino which leads to drought and La Nina which receives above average rainfall. Ex: 2020 - Expected above LPA rainfall.
Urban Heat Island - construction have lowered green cover, heads to disruption in the ocean cycle. Extensive pressure on land, especially in Himalayan areas - Ex: Cloudburst (Sikkim), GLOF. The shifting of the monsoon trough over the country due to weather phenomena determines strength of monsoon. There is a need to ensure mitigation of climate change and worsening systems like IFLOWS in Mumbai in the face of changing systems like atmospheric lakes.
