- ABoth Statement (I) and Statement (II) are individually true and Statement (II) is the correct explanation of Statement (I)
- BBoth Statement (I) and Statement (II) are individually true but Statement (II) is NOT the correct explanation of Statement (I)
- CStatement (I) is true but Statement (II) is false
- DStatement (I) is false but Statement (II) is true
Explanation
Article 214 provides that there shall be a High Court for each State, so Statement II is true. But Statement I is false: Article 231 permits a common High Court for two or more States or Union Territories. Examples include the Gauhati High Court, which serves Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh, and the common Punjab and Haryana High Court. Hence Statement I is false but Statement II is true.
