An X-ray can be deflected:
General KnowledgePhysics
- Aby a magnetic field.
- Bby an electric field.
- Cby both electric and magnetic field.
- Dneither by electric field nor by magnetic field.
Explanation
X-rays are electromagnetic waves, consisting of uncharged photons. Electric and magnetic fields deflect only charged particles (such as alpha particles, beta particles or electrons); since an X-ray photon carries no charge, it passes through both fields undeflected. This property is exploited in X-ray imaging, where the rays travel straight through soft tissue to cast shadows on detectors.
