Explanation
In December 2024, the US President signed a law officially designating the bald eagle as the national bird of the United States, ending its long-unofficial status. The emu is Australia's national bird, and neither the golden eagle nor the red-tailed hawk was so designated. The bald eagle had appeared on the Great Seal of the United States since 1782, but only now became the official national bird.
