Explanation

A firewall is a network security system that monitors and filters incoming and outgoing traffic to prevent unauthorised access through the internet. It does not install harmful software, record every computer activity, or run antivirus checks on downloaded files — those are the functions of malware, monitoring tools and antivirus software respectively. It may be implemented as hardware, as software, or as a combination of both.
