Explanation

Milk of magnesia is a suspension of magnesium hydroxide, which is a mild base. It neutralises excess stomach acid and is therefore used as an antacid for indigestion. Being only mildly alkaline, it is safe for this purpose, unlike strong bases. Hence it is a mild base.
