Explanation

In 2019 the Badminton World Federation launched AirBadminton, the outdoor version of the sport, and introduced ‘Triples’ — a format with three players per side — as its new competitive doubles-style event. It was designed for play on sand, grass and hard courts with a special shuttle. Doubles, mixed doubles and team events were already standard formats, not new. Hence Triples.
