General KnowledgeHistory of India
  1. ABoth the statements are individually true and Statement II is the correct explanation of Statement I.
  2. BBoth the statements are individually true but Statement II is not the correct explanation of Statement I.
  3. CStatement I is true but Statement II is false.
  4. DStatement I is false but Statement II is true.

Explanation

Greek accounts such as Megasthenes' Indica do praise India's fertile soil and skilled husbandry, and ancient Indian agricultural texts do recommend manuring — so both statements are true. But the Greeks' favourable impression of Indian agriculture is not explained by Indian manure practice; the two facts are independent. Hence both true, but II is not the correct explanation of I.
