Sound waves cannot travel through a
General KnowledgePhysics
- Acopper wire placed in air.
- Bsilver slab placed in air.
- Cglass prism placed in water.
- Dwooden hollow pipe placed in vacuum.
Explanation
Sound is a mechanical wave and needs a material medium to propagate. A wooden hollow pipe placed in vacuum contains no air or other matter, so there is nothing to carry the vibrations. A copper wire, a silver slab and a glass prism are all material media through which sound travels readily. Hence sound cannot travel through the pipe placed in vacuum.
