Oxides of sulphur, oxides of nitrogen, and hydrocarbons are all gaseous air pollutants. Smoke, by contrast, is a suspension of fine solid and liquid particulates in gas — a particulate pollutant, not a gaseous one. Hence D is the one that is not a gaseous pollutant.
