Explanation
The Constitution (35th Amendment) Act, 1974 inserted Article 2A and the Tenth Schedule, making Sikkim an 'Associate State' of India — a unique, transitional status. The 36th Amendment (1975) then repealed that associate status and admitted Sikkim as the 22nd full state (adding Article 371F). The 7th Amendment (1956) reorganized states and the 5th concerned procedure for altering state boundaries — neither touched Sikkim. Hence the Associate-State status came through the 35th Amendment.
