Explanation

Chile extends south to about 56°S at Cape Horn, farther south than Australia (about 39°S at Tasmania), South Africa (about 35°S) or Polynesia’s main islands. The southern tip of South America extends far closer to Antarctica than any point of Australia, Africa or the Pacific islands listed. Hence Chile is at the southernmost latitude, giving (C).
